Hello. I am Jonah Probell (普 仲朗),
Microprocessor Designer (微處理器高級設計師)
Digital Video Industry Analyst (多媒体産業分析)
Professionally
I combine the skills of a digital video expert and a microprocessor
architect. For more than a decade I have designed digital hardware and
specifically microprocessors. I have always been interested in making
computers come alive to users through audio and video. That is done
by the science and art of digital signal processing. I have
participated in the revolutionary growth of processor performance from
the world of audio processing in the 1990s to the world of video
processing today.
I have worked for multi-national companies that develop chips for digital audio and
video, for startup companies, and as an independent consultant. Each has its charms. The
work that I do typically involves designing one or more
of:
- microprocessor logic for general-purpose or digital signal processing including:
- ALUs (including SIMD)
- fixed-point multipliers
- load/store interfaces
- system bus controllers
- on-chip debug interfaces (for software development)
- system peripherals
- systems on a chip based around such microprocessors in
- FPGA
- standard cell ASIC / ASSP
- such systems for the purposes of processing digital video
- decoders and encoders
- MPEG, H.264 (AVC), and others
- DVD, set-top box, video conferencing, video phones, and others
There is a lot of engineering work experience on my resume. I
enjoy the benefits and challenges of startup companies. I was
employee 23 at Lexra and a founder of Ultra Data. The
Ultra Data intellectual property and technology assets were acquired at the end of 2004.
I enjoy helping startups in the chip, semiconductor IP, and EDA businesses whenever I can.
I run the digital video web site VideoBits.org. I
also enjoy meeting other engineers in my field. I am always looking for the next great
opportunity. So, let me know what you are working on.
I have published some papers and pending patents and written some
of my own source code that I freely distribute.
